How much does it cost to become an OT in the US?
What is it like working in the U.S. healthcare system?
How does licensing work?
(we answer ALL these questions AND more in OT Passport to USA!)
Hi! We are Karen (left) and Kristina (right). We are two friends who graduated from the MScOT program at University of Toronto in 2015. We knew we both wanted to pursue work in the U.S. as Occupational Therapists, so we began searching for resources online that would give us the step-by-step blueprint and tell us exactly what we needed to do.
Unfortunately, that resource did not exist. All we could find was an old forum from 2002 with a few sentences about working in the states. But what we REALLY wanted to know was - HOW? What do we need to do to actually be certified to work in the US as a Canadian Occupational Therapist?
After trial and error (ahem... rejected visas, miscommunication with recruiters, and costly mistakes), we finally ended up working in the US as New Grad Canadian OTs!
This is exactly why we spent 2+ years creating OT Passport to USA- to help Canadian new grads like yourself transition into working in the US as a Canadian Occupational Therapist without the uncertainty and confusion.
It is definitely a process to work in the U.S. as a Canadian OT. OT passport to USA is the ONLY comprehensive overview of exactly what you need to do to be certified to work in the US, and to do it the right way (i.e., no legal stresses to worry about or over-explaining a mistake you didn't realize you made)
